Technology
Throughout working on my TWS and this past week in talking with other teachers, parents at conferences, and reading the article for class "Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants" I have reconfirmed that we need more technology in our school. It is beyond frustrating to have a textbook with a ton of online activities and interesting things for students to do that incorporate the skills they need to be learning for reading, but no place for students to access these activities. I do not think that technology is a priority in our school district due to the fact that we are completely focused on the Ohio Achievement Assessments. Now, if these were offered online and students had to use computers to complete the assessments I think our district would completely change their view. It is frustrating to work in a place in which we are not able to provide students with the education they will need to be successful in the future. I am going to begin looking for ways that our district and school can get the technology that we need and use it to help prepare students for what the district is focused on as well as what students will need to know for the future. In talking with a parent at conferences she told me about a ton of grants and other places to find money to buy these resources. I now just need to find the time to work on these things...
